I think both of them sounded very off. Its either the tapehead is dirty, maybe even not demagnetized or the Azimuth on the head is mislinged. Idk if the Dolby NR with this deck sounded anything good. because i do not think it originally sounds like that, even with Chrome tape. Because it always depends om the gears and how the cassettes are produced.

Seems flat and lifeless with the Dolby on. Every since I was a kid in the early 80's, I've never liked using Dolby noise reduction. Yes, it does a good job of removing the hiss, but also seems to always sacrifices the high ends and sharpness of the music. I'm still like that today, always opting to deal with hiss vs sacrificing the sound quality of the recording. Of course, this is just my opinion and how I enjoy hearing the music.
